Aims
Chagossians are demanding:
1) the right to return to their homeland in the Chagos Archipelago,
2) proper reparations for their expulsion and more than half a century of exile,
3) resettlement assistance to rebuild their societies in Chagos, and
4) formal apologies from the US and UK governments.
Chagossians and Let Us Return USA ask the US Government:
1) to state publicly that Chagossians have a fundamental human right to live in their homeland,
2) to acknowledge US responsibility, along with the UK, for the expulsion of the Chagossians,
3) to join the UK government in providing proper reparations, and
4) to provide resettlement assistance to Chagossians wanting to live on Diego Garcia and in the rest of the Chagos Archipelago, with equal rights to work on the military base.
Chagossians and Let Us Return USA believe the US Congress should hold hearings to publicly air the US role in the Chagossians’ exile and current plight and to identify steps the US Government should take to rectify these wrongs.
