Eutopya Podcast on the History and Struggle of the Chagossians

Check out this great student-run podcast where Prof. David Vine discusses the history of the Chagos archipelago, its people, and the ongoing modern-day imperialism there. Notably among other topics, the podcast covers: How the UK and US governments in the late-1960s and early-1970s, in the era of decolonization, against international law, secretly and illegally expelled the indigenous Chagossian people to establish a powerful military base; how small and unfair monetary compensation (~$6,000) that the Chagossians were pressured to accept neglect the mental and social impacts generated by the deportation; and how Chagossians, to this day and despite the support of international law, have not been allowed to return home.
